An Apple Fanboys Thoughts of the iPad
// January 30th, 2010 // Opinion
This was a shocker. Not that the news about the official iPad launch. Nope. Not that. But the shocker was that I was not shocked!
Maybe this could be due to the fact that everything Mr. Jobs spoke about was in some ways already covered weeks ago. The only new thing was the design.
I’ve taken my time in writing this post as I still wanted to see what people had to say about the iPad. And the results are that many people are pretty much dissappointed. So much so, comparisons of the Apple TV has been made.
Well although I might not have been moved by the iPad launch, this does not mean I agree with those who have shot down the iPad so quickly. Like Mr. Jobs had mentioned, is there a space between the smartphone and the laptop? So I got to wondering, whether for the way I go ahead in life on a day to day basis – is there such a space?
Let me first say that I have 2 laptops. A MacBook, which I use for the fun part of my life and I have a Dell laptop as well for my office work. I also carry 2 mobile phones. One of them is the iPhone (duh!) and the other is an ancient Blackberry. I think it’s the 8700. So the question is, with all these devices, do I have room for an iPad?
Now, I’d definetely love one. Sitting down in Starbucks and waiting for my next appointment to arrive, I could always whip the iPad out and finish the report I need done. Or in bed, reading the latest Dan Brown without the bed side lamp on. My wife will definitely appreciate it. And of course doing the day to day things a little better that my iPhone can’t handle.
So yes. I definetely could use one. But carrying around 5 devices is a little much. Two laptops on my two shoulders and 2 phones in my two pockets. I’d have to give up some of the devices to get the iPad. And this is what I plan to do.
Permanently put to rest the blackberry. Convert that mobile plan to a data only plan that’ll go well with the iPad. And looking that my office place is pro windows, I can’t give that up (plus office 2010 looks awesome – another post on that soon). So it looks like the MacBook can go to the wife, since she’s been bugging me for awhile now that she needs a new laptop – nevermind the fact that she has 2 already. Afterall, the iPad can do most of the MacBook functions I need. And for iTunes syncing, I have my dandy iMac back home.
So, it would appear that instead of carrying 5 mobile devices, I will actually carry 3. Which is not too bad.
In simple conclusion, I would welcome the idea of having an iPad. Now I just hope that Apple will include Flash and possibily a front facing camera. Mr. Jobs, if you’re reading this, please include those and I’ll be a very happy fan boy indeed.
